FGR Community is the official charity of Forest Green Rovers Football Club – recognised by FIFA as the greenest football club in the world and by the United Nations as the first carbon-neutral club.

As a subsidiary of the Green Britain Foundation (Charity No. 1148783), our mission is to use football as a force for good – empowering people, strengthening communities, and promoting sustainability in everything we do.

Through partnerships with schools, youth groups, sports clubs, and local organisations, we deliver programmes that support wellbeing, inclusion, skills development and environmental awareness. Whether through coaching, mentoring, or education, football helps us connect with people of all ages and inspire positive change.

“We believe in the power of football to bring people together – to create healthier lives, stronger communities, and a greener future.”

Our focus areas

Our work is built around five core themes:

  • Environment and sustainability – promoting greener habits through education and action.

  • Sport and recreation – encouraging people of all abilities to participate in sport and physical activity.

  • Health and wellbeing – inspiring healthier lifestyles and mental resilience.

  • Inclusion and community cohesion – creating opportunities for people from all backgrounds to come together.

  • Education and employability – helping individuals fulfil their potential through learning and skill-building.

FGR Ambassador Programme

Since 2015, and with the support of local business partner Grundon, our Ambassador Programme has given young people the chance to represent the world’s greenest football club.

Ambassadors promote Forest Green Rovers in their schools and communities, gaining confidence, leadership skills and hands-on experience at matches and events. Schools can nominate pupils to take part, and benefits include:

  • An official FGR shirt and season ticket.

  • Opportunities to invite classmates or teammates to matches.

  • Access to exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences.

We also offer a Senior Ambassador Programme, encouraging older generations to get involved through volunteering, mentoring and matchday support – building connections across ages and communities.

“Being an FGR Ambassador isn’t just about football – it’s about leadership, community and making a difference.”

Working with schools

We proudly deliver the Premier League Primary Stars programme, helping pupils aged 5–11 explore subjects like English, maths, PSHE and PE through the excitement of football.

We also deliver assemblies and workshops focused on sustainability, equality and teamwork – often in partnership with the Ministry of Eco Education. In 2024, more than 500 pupils took part in our How to be Green live assembly, linking football with environmental action.

Secondary schools benefit from tailored sessions too, including enrichment days, football coaching and personal development workshops. Stadium tours and educational visits make learning memorable and inspiring.

Community engagement

FGR Community runs Premier League Kicks, providing free, inclusive sports sessions for 8–18 year olds across Gloucestershire. These sessions promote teamwork, inclusion and ambition, while offering access to workshops in healthy living, mental health and employability.

Locally, our Community Development Worker leads initiatives such as the Community Café, Food Pantry and Warm Hub in Nailsworth – ensuring everyone has access to support, connection and care.

“Our community work is about more than football – it’s about tackling inequality and giving people the tools to thrive.”

Holiday activities and disability sport

Our holiday football camps keep 5–13 year olds active, confident and connected during school breaks.

We also deliver pan-disability football sessions for 8–18 year olds, providing inclusive and enjoyable opportunities for young people with disabilities to play football, make friends and build self-belief in a supportive environment.

Boot Swap: making football accessible and sustainable

To make football affordable and reduce waste, we’ve launched the FGR Boot Swap in partnership with Sports Direct. Families can donate and exchange outgrown football boots in good condition, ensuring no one is left on the sidelines and fewer boots end up in landfill.

Matchday and beyond

Our Community Stand initiative offers complimentary match tickets to schools, youth clubs and community groups – giving them a chance to experience live football at The New Lawn. Groups can also request stadium tours and special moments such as forming the guard of honour.

Beyond matchdays, our workshops and educational visits bring learning to life inside the stadium – connecting the excitement of sport with lessons in sustainability, teamwork and ambition.
